There is a first differentiation between what we think and what we feel, and the trick is that even when we can differentiate them, the thing is to integrate them. That is, what you feel is linked to what you think and what you think is linked to what you feel. Instead of stimulating our thoughts, we can stimulate our feelings, thereby manipulating our feelings and from there changing our thoughts, our focus. For me, the two most powerful stimulants that exist are music and aromas. Good music and good perfume are a very powerful combination.
But what about the “negative” people, the “toxic” people, for just as with the “positive” people and the “antidote” people, they are all participating in the same reality, and each one decides not only what kind of person to be but what kind of person to focus on and for how long. You can focus on the criminality of terrorists who cause displacement of civilian populations, just as you can focus on the humanity of doctors without borders who risk their lives for people they don’t even know. You decide which aspect to focus on, this is fundamental.
As you can see, it is not a question of entering into a subject of denial, on the contrary, one begins by admitting as many aspects of reality as possible, and from there one decides which side to adhere to. Unfortunately, the issue is not usually very simple because many people have been indoctrinated into a manichean educational system, that is, into a system of thought based on the idea of good and evil first, and then of guilt. For example, there are people who relate joy to frivolity, and monetary wealth to dishonest activities, then unconsciously repress joy and wealth.
Another factor that plays against a positive spiral is the ease with which we react negatively to adverse events; even more, there are people who have a habit of expecting such adverse events. In business, at the employee level, I once used the phrase “we no longer have” with my colleagues when presenting a project, as a mental relaxant. The thing is to change the chip and impose an “insurance that we are approved”. But, again, to change something, you have to be aware of that something. If we are not aware of our reactivity it is more difficult.
Finally, there is nothing more difficult than constancy when it goes against our natural attunement. The constancy in the visualization of what we want depends on whether we really know what we want and how much we want it. What we like does not exhaust us, what we love never tires us, this is a reality to which we must pay all our attention and, in the same way, be attentive to the opposite situation. In other words, it is also necessary to be constant in avoiding what overwhelms and polarizes us towards a negative spiral. To be constant is to flow.
