You can’t fight an enemy you don’t know, not efficiently. Along these lines, in order to change a way of thinking, which is the result of a belief system, it is necessary to examine the basis of that belief system. For example, if a Sunni is unacceptable to a Shia, he must first examine why and how this is the case (and vice versa). For a Saudi Muslim to change the way he sees the Western world, he must understand how his belief system originates. That is, it is difficult, if not impossible, to change what we feel by imposition.
You have to put a lot of effort into knowing, understanding and comprehend your own belief system. Without this it becomes a bit utopian, and it’s like telling a red club fanatic to become a blue club fanatic; that doesn’t add up. To free ourselves from a negative idea, to carry out a mourning process from beginning to end, for example, we must understand that there is a relationship that has ended, and from there to begin a new approach, only from there is it possible to impose a new scheme of action and thought, not before confronting the reality.
But, if we are punctual and because of any circumstances we have to live with a person who is unpunctual, generating a continuous negative tension, how can we change this, if it does not depends on us? Some people don’t seem to be able to change, and there’s no point in even trying to get them to do so. The conditions must be established so that the behavior of others does not affect our performance, but if we already know what the Dalmatians are like, we cannot pretend to have two of them and a garden without wells. Now, if your punctuality depends on an unpunctual person, your dependence is clear and you must focus on becoming independent.
Of course, «turning the corner» is not usually something that happens at the drop of a hat. Understanding one’s own belief system, and changing it, implies not only effort, but constancy in the application of that effort. There is a difference between giving one’s life and giving one’s way of life, to put it in a graphic form. Paradoxically, if this effort to know and master one’s own belief system implies moving away from others, the result will be a return to others in a much more positive and generous way, it is a simple mechanic.

The good thing about positive changes is that their effects manifest themselves without delay, and that everyone around them is involved. The more radical the attitude of change, the more imposing the consequence. Given the first step, it is becoming obvious that abundance has to do with detachment, with letting go and releasing, because how, for example, can we move forward if we are anchored in the past, and how can we reap that which is not sown? Exercising free will to choose a generous attitude is not tiring when we understand that we are the beneficiaries of it.
